Assisted Hatching

A procedure in which a small opening is created in the zona pellucida (outer shell) of an embryo to help facilitate implantation.

In IVF Treatment

Assisted hatching may be recommended for patients with thickened zona pellucida, older patients, or those with prior failed transfers. The opening is made using a laser, acidic solution, or mechanical means on the morning of transfer.
