Endometriosis

diagnosis

Definition

A condition in which tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus, causing pain and potentially affecting fertility.

In IVF Treatment

Endometriosis can impair egg quality, tube function, and implantation. IVF bypasses the tubes and can be effective. Surgical treatment of endometriomas (ovarian cysts from endometriosis) before IVF may be considered, though this can reduce ovarian reserve.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does endometriosis reduce IVF success?

Severe endometriosis can negatively affect IVF outcomes, but many patients with endometriosis achieve successful pregnancies through IVF. Treatment approach and disease stage both matter.
