An injectable form of progesterone suspended in oil (sesame or olive), administered intramuscularly to support the uterine lining after embryo transfer.

PIO is considered the gold standard for luteal support in many protocols. It is administered with a 1-1.5 inch needle into the upper outer buttock. Warming the oil and massaging the site can reduce discomfort.

How do I reduce PIO injection pain?
Warm the oil by holding the syringe in your hand or placing in a heating pad for 5 minutes. Use a 25-gauge needle for injection if possible. Apply a warm compress after. Rotate sides and sites daily.
