Hysteroscopy
procedureDefinition
A procedure using a thin lighted telescope (hysteroscope) inserted through the cervix to examine and treat the inside of the uterus.
In IVF Treatment
Diagnostic hysteroscopy may be recommended before IVF to check for uterine abnormalities (polyps, fibroids, adhesions, septum) that could interfere with implantation. Operative hysteroscopy removes these issues.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is hysteroscopy required before IVF?
Not always. Many clinics perform a saline sonogram or HSG first. Hysteroscopy is typically reserved for when abnormalities are found or when there have been multiple failed transfers.
