Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection(ICSI)

procedure

Definition

An assisted fertilization technique in which a single sperm is injected directly into a mature egg.

In IVF Treatment

ICSI is used when sperm parameters are poor (low count, motility, or abnormal morphology), when prior IVF had poor fertilization, or when sperm is surgically retrieved. It is now used in the majority of IVF cycles worldwide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does ICSI improve pregnancy rates?

ICSI improves fertilization rates when there is a sperm factor, but does not necessarily improve pregnancy rates when sperm is normal. Your embryologist will recommend it based on your specific situation.
