Testicular Sperm Extraction(TESE)

Definition

A surgical procedure to retrieve sperm directly from the testicular tissue, used when sperm are absent from the ejaculate (azoospermia).

In IVF Treatment

TESE (and its variants mTESE and PESA) allows men with obstructive or non-obstructive azoospermia to contribute genetically to conception. Retrieved sperm is used with ICSI. Success depends on the underlying cause of azoospermia.
